Director Terrence Malick’s 2 new projects announced

I was introduced to Mr. Terrence Malick’s work 6-7 years ago in a film class. We were studying the philosphy of motion pictures, understanding the deeper significance in a film. Every other day the instructor would come with a film and he would screen it for us in the class and the day after in the class, he always had the habit of taking the clock down from the wall to simply avoid the sound of it ticking for 2 hours, which in a way helped us concentrate on the topic.  And, one of the films that he showed us was Terrence Malick’s masterpiece, The Thin Red Line (1998). I immediately fell in love with Mr. Malick’s work after watching The Thin Red Line.  I wish he wouldn’t be reclusive, so I could listen to him explaining us the meaning of his films. I can understand the meaning behind all his films, but it would be a different experience for me seeing Mr. Malick himself speaking his films.

As a fan of Mr. Malick’s work, I am proud to share today’s biggest news revealed by FilmNation that Mr. Terrence Malick’s next two films are Lawless and Knight of Cups. Lawless will have Ryan Gosling as the lead, with Academy Award winners Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett. And, to fill the fields of the supporting cast in this project, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett will be starring as well.

And, Knight of Cups will have Christian Bale again assuming in the lead role with a supporting cast that includes Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas. The plot details for both of these projects were not divulged by FilmNation, but they said that both of these films will be shot back-t0-back in 2012. Now, I am a bit confused, for Mr. Bale was spotted along with Mr. Malick himself shooting a scene in September in Austin City Limits music festival and FilmNation is reporting that the production will not be commenced until next year. I wonder what was Malick and Bale shooting on September then? – According to the article published on The Playlist, sources close to the production told them that the shooting at Austin City Limits was actually pre-production work and Bale was there “working out and finding his character.”

You have to check back with us soon on the plots behind these two projects. This is exciting for all Terrence Malick fans, for he usually takes long breaks and then comes with a film, and also keep in mind that Mr. Malick shot another untitled film (aka “The Burial“)  last year in Oklahoma, which stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz. Currently, for this project no plot details or premiere date are available, it is said to be a romantic drama though. It doesn’t really matter what project Mr. Malick and Mr. Bale were shooting on September or which film will release first. What matters the most here is that we will get to see a stellar cast in both of these projects. And, his untitled film with Ben Affleck has a chance of premiering next year at Cannes Film Festival where Mr. Malick’s The Tree of Life was screened.
