Screenwriter Stephen Gaghan polishes Shyamalan’s ‘A.E.’

This evening Variety reports that the Academy award winning writer Stephen Gaghan (Syriana, Traffic) recently finished polishing Sony Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment’s sci-fi screenplay, “One Thousand A.E,” which stars Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. The script tells the tale of a father (Will Smith) and son (Jaden Smith) who crash lands on Earth one thousands years after mankind has abandoned the planet. The tragic crash leaves the father gravely injured, and it’s up to the son to look for help in a place which is now strange and dangerous.

M.Night Shyamalan is going to helm this project, he rewrote the screenplay which was originally written by “The Book of Life” scribe, Gary Whitta just to apply his artistic strokes. and then Mr. Gaghan took over for polishing purposes. He turned in the revision a month ago to the studio and may continue to collaborate with Mr. Shyamalan on the current draft. The production is set to begin on February 2012.
