Ben Affleck to receive Modern Master Award

I am writing on behalf of all the great writers here at Masters of Cinema to congratulate from the bottom of our hearts Mr. Ben Affleck as he’s going to be presented The Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival; Mr. Affleck will be joining an illustrious group of past recipients including Clint Eastwood, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges, Michael Douglas, Peter Jackson, Diane Keaton, Will Smith, George Clooney, Christopher Plummer, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett and Jodie Foster.

“Affleck has come into his own as a multi-dimensional artist with ARGO. He embodies what the Modern Master Award is all about, and we’re thrilled to honor him this year,” commented SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling.

We share the same notion as Mr. Roger Durling, Mr. Affleck has proven himself as the director with films such as Gone Baby, Gone, The Town and Argo. His goal as a true artist is to contribute and take cinema to new heights. Most importantly, his work, we believe will inspire the aspiring writers and film-makers. As the aficionados of cinema, we’re thrilled to see him accepting this prestigious award.

Mr. Affleck will be honored for his work this year as the director, producer and star of the critically acclaimed film Argo, which is based on true events. The film tells the story of the life or death covert operation to rescue six Americans from the grip of the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The film stars Affleck, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, Victor Garber, Clea DuVall, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Chris Messina, Scoot McNairy, Tate Donovan, Kerry Bishe, Rory Cochrane and Christopher Denham. Argo is based on the screenplay by Chris Terrio, produced by Ben Affleck, Grant Heslov and George Clooney.

This 28th edition of the Festival will run from January 24 – February 3, 2013. The tribute will be taking place on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at the historic Arlington Theatre.
